Surfing in Morocco began to take shape in the 1960s, when international surfers started discovering the region’s incredible coastline. Pioneers like Gary Elmes and Kirk McNulty were among the first to explore the breaks around Taghazout, with McNulty even calling it home for many years. Their adventures in Morocco sparked interest from surfers worldwide, drawn by the region’s perfect waves and untouched beauty.
By the 1990s, Morocco’s surf scene began to flourish, attracting big names like Olivier Lemoine and Rachid Khoukh—two local surf legends who helped develop the surf culture here. Today, Morocco is considered one of the top surf destinations, with world-class waves from Imsouane to Anchor Point. With more than 300 days of waves each year, it’s easy to see why surfers from all corners of the world continue to flock here.
